Special Permit to Conduct Steeplechase Race Meeting on Property Partially Located in Bedminster Township – NJ Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association has filed an application with the NJ Racing Commission to conduct a one-day steeplechase race meeting on Mooreland Farm, partially located in Bedminster, on October 16, 2021.The governing body may object by passing a resolution within 30 days of the notice. (by December 10, 2020)

In order for the future Mayor to reach out to volunteers for possible appointments to committees and commissions for 2021, it is beneficial to know in advance who the future mayor will be.  Therefore, a “straw vote” by the members of the 2021 Township Committee is taken at the first meeting following the November General Election.

  1. Black River Road Petition

Residents of Black River Road and Southfield Drive have submitted a petition to the Township Committee requesting that steps be taken to enforce the 25 mph speed limit on Black River Road.  Several meetings with Township professionals have been held to discuss possible options.

COVID-19 Emergency

Bedminster Township status update during this health emergency.

 

Short-Term Rentals

Landlord registrations have increased due to this investigation.  The Fire Prevention Dept. has seen a big increase in landlord registrations.

 

Engine Braking

Excessive noise complaints from residents near Rt. 206 regarding engine braking has prompted the placement of a portable sign reminding truckers to refrain from engine braking on Rt. 206 at Old Dutch Road from time to time. 

 

Pluckemin Park

Inspection of the property by Code Enforcement and Zoning revealed several violations that have been settled in court and repairs have been completed.  Inspectors are monitoring complaints from residents.  The property manager recently contacted the Administrator stating that they hoped to apply for a grant to provide rehabilitation to some of the buildings in the near future.

 

JCP&L Outages

JCP&L continues to meet with local representatives regarding the status of the repair projects in Bedminster with priority given to the Hills Development.  Representatives from impacted neighborhoods have organized and will keep in contact with JCP&L regarding the repairs. Cm Hickey reported that the transformer project adjacent to Stone Run II is complete.  The project will allow power to be rerouted in the event of an outage and service restored more quickly. 

 

New Jersey American Water Rate Increase

Bedminster Township is coordinating with other municipalities in the Somerset Hills to file as an intervener in this rate case before the BPU.  Cm Hickey reported that in December, NJAW filed for an $87.7 million-dollar increase--their 3rd rate increase in five years.  He further stated that NJAW boasts a Return on Investment (ROI) of 27% which outperformed the DOW with a stock price increase of 152%, and that it is clear NJAW is poised to serve their shareholders as opposed to their ratepayers.
